A beautiful night of "art-magic" and the works of Thomas Ligotti in Orlando took place!
This past Saturday, May 7th was a magical experience as Jon Padgett and I had the tremendous honor of performing some of Thomas Ligotti’s brilliant work in a live setting at The Abbey in Orlando, Florida. This was the second time Jon and I had the immense pleasure of sharing the stage together to perform in a live setting for incredibly appreciative fans of Thomas Ligotti and Cadabra Records. The performance in Orlando this weekend was absolutely amazing on every level!
Jon’s masterful and unparalleled ability to perfectly crystalize the essence and spirit of the short stories and poems performed is a transcendent experience to witness and to be a part of. He brings each word to life with such precision all the while creating a deeply moving, complex range of emotions that instantly draws the listener in and keeps them hanging onto each and every nuance taking place and unfolding throughout the performance. I couldn’t be more grateful to share the stage with Jon and perform some of Thomas Ligotti’s masterpieces for such an awesome group of people who also share a love for the work.
I performed the soundtracks for each short story and poem in Orlando utilizing an acoustic/electric steel-string parlor guitar, a synthesizer, an electric piano as well as computer generated backing drones and underpinning textures that drifted throughout each piece. The sound system at The Abbey is as beautiful as the venue itself is so it was exhilarating and deeply meditative to perform with Jon in this kind of sonic setting and elegant atmosphere.
Massive thanks to Cadabra Records label head, founder and visionary Jonathan Dennison for making all of the Thomas Ligotti records possible and giving them such deluxe attention on every level which led to this show being possible and to Peter Olen of Endoxa Booking who made the show at The Abbey a reality. It was a thrilling experience to arrive at the venue and see THOMAS LIGOTTI’S GAS STATION CARNIVALS on the marquee outside of The Abbey. Just thinking of that brings me great joy. Thanks so much to everyone that attended the show. The people I met there couldn’t have been kinder.
Performing the works of Thomas Ligotti is something Jon and I love and hope to do many more times, so fingers crossed that more shows will be on the imminent horizon!
